Dramatic events of recent years -- including the election of Donald Trump as president of the US, the “Brexit” decision by British voters to leave the European Union, and fall of “establishment” political parties in Europe -- highlight the breakdown of the social-political System that has prevailed in the US and western Europe since the end of World War II.

In this bold book, Gilad Atzmon examines the colossal failure of the mass media, academia and political leaders to identify and address the factors behind the crisis of Liberal Democracy and the discord of our age.

In today’s political and intellectual life, he argues, “Left” and “Right” have become meaningless terms. Atzmon probes the tyranny of political correctness, which has constricted free thought and open discussion of important issues. People understandably feel ever more bewildered and alienated.

In this book, the author offers a deeper intellectual- philosophical explanation for the malaise that prevails today, and he outlines a way forward to a better future.

Atzmon contrasts the “Athens” outlook that once prevailed in the Western world with the “Jerusalem” outlook that now dominates. “While Athens is associated with the idea that truth is discovered through reason,” he writes, “Jerusalem stands for the view that truth is delivered through revelation. Athens, therefore, is the home to philosophy, 'logos' and science. Jerusalem, on the other hand, is the capital of law and obedience.”

Among those who have praised this work is James Petras, Bartle emeritus professor, Binghamton University. “Atzmon's book Being in Time,” he says, “is a brilliant and substantive critique of identity politics and Jewish political ideology and culture. It is an essential read for understanding and confronting authoritarianism of all stripes and colors.
